Joe Mason spun records at the nightclub located within the Ramada Inn Westport, a lounge called "Rumors." This was on the heels of the popular and successful New Wave night at Gambits. When Mason could not reach an agreement to extend his contract, he left and started a larger, generally better attended stint in Westport.
Gambit's is where local Saint Louisans first heard New Wave Music. Championed by Joe Mason, New Wave got its true start in St. Louis at this club, where it influenced radio airplay, fashion, and nightlife.
